Sophy Robson describes the back stage life at Fashion for Relief, where she worked in partnership with Sally Hansen to provide manicures for all the models.

Getting through lots of supplies!

“Working on fashion shows is always a thrill so when I was asked to do nails for the Fashion For Relief show, I jumped at the chance. It had already been announced in the press and looked like it was going to be a big event with names like Burberry, Kate Moss, Elle McPhearson and of course Naomi Campbell already affiliated, for a great cause. I called Sally Hansen immediately to see if they wanted to get involved as well.

“At the production meeting with Malcolm Edwards (hair) and Terry Barber (make up) we decided that as there would be such a variety of faces and models in the show, we would make them all look as gorgeous as possible! So we agreed on a simple but glamorous look for everyone in the show.

“I thought as it was the finale of London Fashion Week, it would be great to give everyone a tlc manicure with a Sally Hansen Treatment for nails as the finish. I love the look that Age Correct gives as it turns from milky to clear, and it also strengthens the nails with protein which I knew would be much appreciated by all those busy models and celebrities!

“On the day of the show the team arrived in good time and backstage the atmosphere was electric. Stars were arriving left right and centre and hair and make-up teams, in a frenzy of preparation were fighting for space with camera crews and beauty journalists.

“I lost count of how many manicures we did but amongst some that received the Sally Hansen treatment were models Naomi, Erin O'Connor, Jade Parfitt, Catherine Bailey, Jasmine Guiness, Princess Beatrice, Faye Dunnaway, Jamelia, Naomie Harris (who had just flown in especially from L.A.), All Saints, Katherine Jenkins, Skin, Boy George, Rio Ferdinand, Christian Slater, David Furnish, Shane Ward. Minutes before the show is about to start me and my trusted assistant Zaida grab a hand each of Amerie who won’t get dressed until she'd had her manicure!

By the time we made our way into the audience, Philip Green was announcing that over £500,000 had already been raised so a great evening was had by all.
